The Bulenga Dancers - October 2003
In Summer 2001 Ms Feeley from Grove's English department spent a fortnight teaching in the Kikaaya College School in Uganda. Following her visit the Ugandan school's headteacher, Mr Charles Mubiru reciprocated and spent two weeks at Grove. While here we discussed the possibility of him returning with a dance troupe.
Eighteen months later, with funding raised from accommodating Spanish, Mexican and American students, we were able to pay for sixteen students and two teachers to fly from Uganda - bringing all their drums, xylophones and traditional costumes with them.
Th Bulenga Dancers staged workshops in local primary schools, performed in concerts at schools across Shropshire. Their tour culminated in a grand finale at Grove, from which the following pictures come.
