In February 2002 a party of Grove teachers accompanied by some primary colleagues received funding under the Teachers' International Professional Development (TIPD) to visit Cape Town. The purpose of their visit was to look at co-operative learning strategies which were being pioneered in South Africa.

Maths teacher, Mrs Pat Jackson was so taken with her experiences that she quickly organised a group of Year 10 Grove students to return to Cape Town the followuing Easter to see for themselves a completely different culture and learning experience. The school's project was featured on the G-nation website - a site aimed at encouraging schools to focus their charity efforts. (Learn more about G nation). Students were also invited to Downing Street to discuss their fund-raising work.
