Ich wohne in Europa
A KS3 (or lower ability KS4/revision) activity: where do the 24 European citizens live?
Requires an awareness of European geography and compass points.

This activity consists of two sheets:
the first is details of how two German children's families share the chores.
This is cut up and distributed around the classroom.
The sceond is a grid to fill in with the chores
and preferences of each member of the two families.
The families are differentiated by font.

Scrooge in German
The famous Christmas story simplified for good KS3 students or KS4 (even AS),
with key vocab explained at the bottom and italicised in the text.
Although the text uses more tenses than GCSE requires, the meaning should be clear.
Students are asked to imagine/write the final scene of the story using the future tense.
Students could also pick out key phrases and produce a cartoon version.

Who's the criminal?
Three men staying in the same hotel are suspected of a crime. They provide alibis - in German.
One of them contains two claims that are verifiably false.
This activity is used to consolidate the perfect tense
and relies upon a close reading of the alibis and comparison of their claims
with other information such as bus time tables and restaurant menus.

German Treasure Hunt
This activity leads students through a virtual house
and revises furniture and prepositions..
They need to follow the instructions and click on the correct piece of furniture
to progress to the next room.

This activity could be done as a class on an interactive whiteboard or individually,
and takes from 15 - 30 minutes depending on the students' ability and tenacity.
